Other cities may have their fiberglass fish, pelicans or peanuts, but Montgomery and Prattville will join the City Art craze when 6-foot long fishing lures are cast through the River Region this fall. The Alabama River Clean Water Partnership is sponsoring “The Hooked on the Alabama River” project to lure businesses, the community, and the arts together for the benefit of the Alabama River.
The project will promote and benefit the most spectacular natural resource in our region: The Alabama River. To do this, 30 fiberglass fishing lures will be decorated by local artists and sponsored by area organizations. Each lure will be unique and will attract people to the importance of the Alabama River for our region and to the business that sponsors it.
The completed lures will be unveiled at the Festival of Fishing Lures, an outdoor recreation based festival. It takes place on September 14 at the Riverwalk Amphitheatre. The Lure Tour is a self-guided tour of the lures and their display locations and will run from September 22nd to November 11th in Montgomery and Prattville.
Sponsors, artists and potential sponsors will get the first look at the giant lures on June 14th at the Gazebo at the Montgomery Riverwalk at 5:30 pm. Shane Whittemore, the manager of Bass Pro Shops-Prattville will offer a few remarks and then the giant but bare lure will be unveiled to give everyone a preview of the project.
